The Saeima faction of the KPV LV party on May 12 voted in favor of the withdrawal of former party member Jānis Vitenbergs (National Alliance) from the post of Minister of Economics.

Four members of the faction voted against Vitenbergs' withdrawal, four more voted in favor and one Member abstained, Latvian Television reported.

Four members who voted against the withdrawal - Aivars Geidāns, Janīna Kursīte, Ivars Puga and Edgars Kronbergs - have decided to leave KPV LV and continue as independent Members. Thus, only five KPV LV members remain in the Saeima.

Economics Minister Jānis Vitenbergs, who was elected in the Saeima from the faction KPV LV, after deciding to join the National Alliance (NA), was already facing withdrawal from office after a decision of his party members on April 22.

Meanwhile, members of the parliamentary faction of KPV LV supported the continuation of Vitenbergs' work in the government. The Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) requested a repeated decision by the Saeima faction of KPV LV on whether it wants the resignation of Economics Minister. The faction has now voted in favor of his withdrawal. Members of the faction have differing views on whether Vitenbergs can continue to take office.

As one of the potential candidates for the post of Minister of Economics KPV LV has discussed businessman Pēteris Šmidre. The Board of Governors of KPV LV has not yet decided which candidate to move towards the post of Minister for Economics.
