President: I will continue to lead an active life and offer advice

The four years as President have been very hard, and the work required a lot of learning and self-improvement, said President Andris Bērziņš after his last official meeting with Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma.

"I will continue to lead an active life. [...] And I will, if Ms. Straujuma wants me to, continue to express my opinion about the things I have experience dealing with [...], mostly finance - we will continue to exchange opinion [on financial matters]," said Bērziņš.

PM Straujuma said that they had thanked each other during the last meeting. She also had asked Bērziņš for permission to reach to him in cases where his opinion on economic matters is needed. She said that she trusts Bērziņš' opinion a lot.

Bērziņš' term as President ends next week. He did not seek to run for the second term. The next President will be the current Minister of Defense Raimonds Vējonis (Green and Farmers Alliance), who will become the first 'green' president in the EU on July 8.
