Rinkēvičs: Latvia will support Ukraine until victory

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Rīga on Thursday, January 11. In a press conference after the meeting Rinkēvičs said Latvia would support Ukraine until it reaches absolute victory.

Rinkēvičs said that, with the first aid package of the year, the total aid from Latvia to Ukraine exceeds EUR 600 million, which is nearly 1% of the Latvian GDP.

He added that Latvia has pledged to train at least 3000 Ukrainian soldiers and to provide medical treatment and rehabilitation for both injured troops and civilians.

Latvia is also ready to help Ukraine with integration into the European Union, said Rinkēvičs. He emphasized full support of the EU sanctions package against Russia and mentioned the need to continue coordination in sanctions politics issues, including the import of Russian grain.

"We have to shift the strategic focus. We have to support Ukraine until its complete victory, not, as some say, as long as necessary," said Rinkēvičs, adding that a complete victory means the integrity and inseparability of the entire Ukrainian territory.
