Rīga and Vidzeme will get one MP more in next Saeima

The number of MPs that will be elected in this year's Saeima elections will rise by one in the electoral districts of Rīga and Vidzeme and decrease by one in Latgale and Zemgale, according to a June 2 decision by the Central Election Commission (CVK).

The number of MPs elected from the Riga electoral district will rise from 35 to 36, and from 25 to 26 in Vidzeme. Accordingly, Latgale's MP count will be reduced from 14 to 13, the same as Zemgale, and it will stay at 12 in Kurzeme. 

According to information provided by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, as of May 31, 2022, there were 563,356 voters registered in the Riga electoral district, 395,630 voters registered in the Vidzeme electoral district, 206,194 voters registered in the Zemgale electoral district, 195,643 voters registered in the Latgale electoral district and 180,456 voters registered in the Kurzeme electoral district. The number of MPs in the Saeima is proportional to the voter number in each district. 

The total number of voters registered in Latvia's electoral districts was 1,541,279.

The 14th Saeima elections take place on October 1, 2022.
