The Riga Regional Court on July 2 decided to remand MP Jānis Ādamsons (Harmony party), suspected of spying for Russia, in custody, the LETA newswire learned from the court.

As previously reported, long-time Saeima member Ādamsons was detained in June on suspicions of spying for Russia and Riga City Vidzeme District Court has ruled to remand him in custody. The court also also imposed arrest on another person, an unnamed Russian citizen.

The State Security Service has conducted searches at several locations, including the parliament building in connection with the case and obtained a large number of data carriers and documents, and has started to analyze the materials.

Both arrested persons are suspects in the case.

The Saeima stripped MP Ādamsons of his lawmaker's immunity. He has protested his innocence

Ādamsons sits on the Saeima Commission for Defense, Home Affairs and Prevention of Corruption and is head of the Saeima deputies' group for cooperation with the Russian parliament.
