Vaccination Bureau must go, Saeima decides

Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Thursday, the Saeima supported amendments to the Covid-19 Infection Management Law, which requires Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš to instruct the responsible minister to remove the Vaccination Project Bureau by June 1.

Proposal for amendments to the law was tabled by opposition Member Jūlija Stepaņenko.

The vaccination project bureau was created in January this year as a unit of the Ministry of Health (VM). Therefore, the Minister responsible for the removal of the establishment is the Minister for Health, Daniels Pavļuts.

The initiative on the removal of the vaccination bureau, which collected the necessary 10 000 signatures for submission to the Saeima, was vastly supported by residents. Shortly afterwards, the Minister of Health decided on the reorganization of the vaccination bureau, adding it to the National Health Service (NVD). It also meant reducing employees' salaries.
