Four arrested on suspicion of murder in Rīga

State Police have detained four men on suspicion of killing a man, police reported April 12.

On March 26, an eyewitness spotted a man dead on the ground in a courtyard outside an apartment building in Rīga, Imanta district. Police officers determined that the victim was a young man and had possible signs of violent death.

It was later established that the dead man was born in 1999. On the evening of March 26, State Police officers detained two men and two more on the night of March 27.

Investigating the crime, State Police obtained information that the deceased man had known the suspects. A conflict arose between them while drinking together. During the altercation, the foursome allegedly beat him to death and later carried his body out and left it there.

Criminal proceedings for murder have been initiated in connection with the incident if committed by a group of persons. For such a crime the Law provides for life imprisonment or deprivation of liberty for ten to 20 years and probation for a period of up to three years, confiscating property or without confiscation of property.

All suspects have been arrested.
