The indictment shows that on the evening of July 30, 2023, the accused, while in the stairwell of a residential apartment building in Rīga, grabbed the victim by the shoulders during a conflict out of anger, intentionally with intent to inflict bodily harm, and punched him in the head and body no less than three times with his fist and elbow. As a result, the victim sustained mild bodily injuries.
The case has now been referred to Riga City Court in Pārdaugava.
The Criminal Law on intentional infliction of mild bodily injury provides for deprivation of liberty of up to one year, probation supervision, community service, or a fine.
As reported at the time by LSM, in the summer of 2023, a video surfaced on internet social networks showing a conflict between Znotiņš and his neighbors, with the former MP boasting about his former post, swearing, and threatening that the neighbor's "face would be smeared on the pavement".
After the video emerged, Mr Znotiņš posted on Twitter that he wanted to apologize and said he acted in a hasty manner, however, added that “the full course of events has not been reflected in shaping a one-sided and biased message of what happened.”
The State Police later imposed a 100 euro administrative penalty on Znotiņš for the clash in the stairwell.
