Police plead for public help in search of Jēkabpils murder suspect

The State Police (VP), investigating the murder of a woman in Jēkabpils on April 16, are continuing their search for suspect Leons Rusiņš and ask for the help of the public by sending materials of interest to the investigation to the police, VP said in a release on April 25.

The VP said that "appropriate tactics and methodologies were applied in the search for Rusiņš. Currently, the VP is examining three options. Namely, the person has either committed suicide, is in Latvia, or abroad," the police noted, even if those options might seem somewhat self-evident.

The VP have requested records of video cameras with a total volume of approximately one terabyte and is currently undertaking an analysis of the removed video materials. In addition, around 30 people have been interviewed during the active search events.

It has already been reported that an abandoned car, which Rusiņš used on the day of the murder, was found in the woods near the river Aiviekste, and a search of the river and the forest has been carried out.

The VP ask the public to share photographs and videos at their disposal, in which Rusiņš or other related information, including his travel routes in April of this year, are recorded.

The police ask that visual materials, as well as any other information relevant to the investigation, be provided to the State Police Zemgale Region Administration in the following ways:

  • upload visual materials (photo, video) at this link;
  • report any other information relevant to the investigation by calling 110 or 67006736.

The police ask the public to review the resources at their disposal – videos, including CCTV, and to share any information suspected to be related to the person being searched. The VP draws attention to the fact that investigators see the overall picture of the case and any information, even seemingly irrelevant, can be useful for further advancing the case and finding the person.
