Police search for man on the run in Rīga, Latvia

State Police are searching for Mārtiņš Cesmanis, born in 1981, who on Thursday, July 27, at around 16:55 escaped a police vehicle, the police said.

The man escaped in Rīga, Sarkandaugava district, Meža Prospekts 90, and went toward the cemetery.

The man had been arrested for a robbery.

Search efforts are still in progress on Friday morning, especially in central Rīga and the districts of Pļavnieki, Purvciems, and Sarkandaugava. Police are also checking cars on Dienvidu, Salu, and Akmens bridges, as a result of which congestion is forming.

"I wouldn't say he's particularly dangerous but if someone spots him, don't try to stop him yourself, call the police," said State Police Criminal Administration deputy chief Deniss Judajevs on Latvian Television Friday morning.

The suspect's height is around 175 cm, he wore dark-colored sports trousers and a dark-colored sweater, and was barefoot when he escaped.

Newer information shows he has a dark-colored windbreaker, dark shoes with a white sole and a baseball cap. 

The police are calling for a careful look at the photo of the man and to report immediately by calling 110 if you think you have seen him or know his whereabouts. Police also warn public not to approach Cesmanis.
