On Friday, on Delfi.lv's broadcast Kāpēc ar Olgu Dragiļevu, Chief of State Police Armands Ruks said that there were individuals who had not cooperated with the police in perpetrator Leons Rusiņš' search process. He also confirmed that Bērziņš would lose his position.
These persons, whose number, status, and relations with Rusiņš were not specified by the police chief, “misled and did not provide any information about him here in Latvia”, said the police chief.
Rusiņš, who has been wanted the national level since September last year, has not yet been found. Active search activities are ongoing at national and international levels.
The head of the Austrumzemgale precinct, Bērziņš, has failed to prove himself professionally, said Ruks.
The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has also, on its own initiative, launched an investigation into the case over the alleged failure to act by the State police officials.
