The prosecutor's office has indicted four officials of the State Agency for Procurement (NVA) and one entrepreneur for alleged offenses in the procurement procedure of the temporary fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border, LETA reported August 23.

The prosecution was initiated by the Internal Security Bureau (IDB) at the end of June. The officials are now charged for supporting fraud and abusing the position of the service, according to LETA.

Given the ongoing pretrial investigation, the prosecutor's office didn't give wider comment.

According to LETA, the Bureau has initiated a total of six criminal proceedings related to the construction of the eastern border of the country so far, involving a wide range of officials, businessmen and individuals.

The installation of a temporary barbed wire fence on the Latvian-Belarusian border was completed at the end of November, covering nearly 37 kilometers.
