The Spanish law enforcement authorities have intercepted a cargo ship en route to Rīga near the Canary Islands, carrying 4.5 tonnes of cocaine, the Spanish Civil Guard reported on January 23.

According to Marine Traffic, the freighter 'Blume' was on its way from Brazil and was scheduled to arrive in Rīga mid-February. The ship belongs to a Greek shipping organization but traveled under the flag of Togo. The Spanish investigators paid attention to the ship because, according to the documents, the ship carried only 200 tonnes of coffee, which is a relatively small cargo for such a large ship.

Spanish police intercepted the ship around 360 kilometers from Tenerife. It was initially reported that three tonnes of cocaine were found on it, but it was later clarified that 4.5 tonnes of cocaine were in the drug cargo. The market value of this cargo would be EUR 180 million.
