Military training taking place in Vidzeme and Latgale

From August 2 to 4, military exercises dubbed "Nameja vairogs" ("Namejs' Shield) will be held in several districts of Vidzeme and Latgale regions, the National Armed Forces (NBS) said.

"The purpose of the exercise is to train the cooperation and interoperability of the National Armed Forces and allied units in order to prepare for the comprehensive national defense exercise "Namejs 2023" to be held in the fall," said official information.

As part of the exercise, military equipment columns will be seen moving along public roads and flyovers will be taking place, including some at low altitudes, so members of the public should not be concerned if they see such things.

The large-scale national defense exercise "Namejs 2023" organized by the National Armed Forces will take place from September 5 to October 2 throughout Latvia.

"Responding to the changing security challenges, Latvia's national defense system must be comprehensive and must be based on the readiness of the entire society and state institutions to overcome a crisis, as well as resilience against external influences," said the NBS.
