The government gave the green light to the Provision State Agency under the authority of the Ministry of the Interior to enter into contracts with merchants who have been given contract rights to build disaster management centers.
The construction of centers is planned in Liepāja, Daugavpils, Madona, Līvāni, Salacgrīva, Viļāni, and Alsunga.
It was planned to build ten centers in total but three procurements – for Tukums, Talsi, and Alūksne – have yielded no result, and therefore the procurement has been re-announced by the Interior Ministry.
During the reform of the disaster management system, it is planned to reduce the total number of properties held by the Ministry of Interior.
Of the 93 State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) depot sites owned by the Ministry, more than 80% were constructed between 1890 and 1960. Their placement and areas do not comply with the minimum standards necessary for the performance of disaster management functions.
With the reform of the disaster management system, it is planned to ensure efficient, rapid, and high-quality work of the services involved in disaster management throughout Latvia, as well as to improve cooperation and coordination between the services involved in response and disaster management.
