The hackathon will last for 24 hours and is open to companies, engineers, tech enthusiasts and students alike. Event participants will form teams to submit new ideas for the development of drop munitions, alternative navigation systems, non-standard communications and anti-drone systems.

As previously reported, Latvia and the United Kingdom are spearheading a 'Drone Coalition' which now comprises 14 countries: Latvia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany and Sweden. So far now, the members of the Drone Coalition have raised more than 500 million euros for the donation of drones to Ukraine with the ultimate aim being the supply of 1 million military drones to aid that country's defense against Russian barbarism.

In addition the Ministry of Defense invites companies to submit applications for a grant competition for the development of innovations in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles by June 21, in which 600,000 euros will be distributed among the winners.

The competition will support projects for the development of new dropped ammunition charges and their components, as well as for the development of electronic warfare and anti-drone systems.

According to the rules of the competition, businesses registered in Latvia can apply to receive support in the amount of 50% of the eligible costs of the project. The proportion of support can be increased to 75% of the eligible costs if the implementation of the project involves the involvement of research organizations or the use of the results of their research work.

Businesses can apply for the competition until June 21 of this year by sending an application to [email protected], while the rules of the competition are available on the website of the Ministry of Defense.
