On Monday, March 27, 2023, Latvian Minister of Defense Ināra Mūrniece signed an agreement on Latvia's accession to the planned procurement of the European Defense Agency (EDA) for the joint purchase of ammunition by Norway and EU member states for Ukraine.

Coenting on the move, Mūrniece said: "Latvia be part of this joint procurement sends a clear message - Latvia will continue to provide support to Ukraine in all possible ways. At the same time, I am convinced that this initiative will contribute to a critical increase in the production capacity of the military industrial sector and will contribute to the long-term development of the sector in Europe".

The joint procurement of ammunition is planned to be carried out within the European Defense Agency project to jointly purchase the urgently needed 155 mm artillery ammunition for Ukraine. The European Defense Agency is committed to collecting, coordinating and negotiating contracts with the European defense industry to facilitate the faster procurement of ammunition for Ukraine.
