Latvia grants refuge to Russian ship

Take note – story published 4 years ago

Today, September 9, the Russian civilian fleet tug "Tur", was granted refuge in Latvian waters after finding itself unable to continue its journey through the Baltic Sea due to bad weather.

Refuge was granted at the request of the ship, received by the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Coast Guard (MRCC Riga). The ship and its barge will be located at an anchorage behind Cape Kolka and will be visible from the shore, the Latvian Defense Ministry said.

A similar situation took place in 2015 when two Russian Navy vessels were granted refuge in Latvian territorial waters due to bad weather conditions, as reported at the time by LSM.
