Video at the disposal of LRT + shows a clash in the classroom breaking out as the teacher called for paper scraps to be cleaned up during the break. The pupil objected, started provoking the teacher, and a conflict began.
The girl's father Jurijs said his daughter “apologized and confessed she had provoked the conflict.”
“I told them as a parent that I didn't want the teachers to be fired, but the principal stated that the teachers were fired yesterday because they had probation,” the girl's father told LRT+.
He said in particular that teachers had also apologized and the conflict was over. But the principal of the school has decided differently, and the Board of Education agrees with this decision.
“The teacher couldn't contain herself. And if the teacher did not contain herself, of course she did not manage the situation either,“ noted Marina Isupova, head of the Daugavpils Education Board.
The teacher, who had only worked there for three weeks, admitted in correspondence with LRT+ that she had been unable to withstand the behavior of some children.
The teacher said she had not done the right thing, but the school's actions after the incident hurt her.
“There was a meeting the next day that I wasn't invited to. No one from the administration called. This is already an indicator of how the school works,“ the dismissed teacher wrote.
The other teacher was dismissed because she was defending her colleague.
The school principal notes that the situation in the institution has now returned to normal.
“I wouldn't want everyone thinking now that the kids have beaten the teacher, far from it. We will assess in detail each child's complicity, involvement, also changing perhaps methods to go by in this class, intensively monitoring that the other teachers coming, of course, do not have such problems,” said Ingrīda Brokāne, principal of Daugavpils Opportunity High School.
Meanwhile, the girl involved in the conflict reportedly receives threats from the local community, for which her father has turned to the police.
The Parents' Council also advocates for teachers; the principal's actions have also been criticized by the Daugavpils City Council.
This is not the only video that has emerged recently in connection with Daugavpils Opportunity High School – previously, a third-grade student was requested by classmates to show all the contents of the bag. The girl's mom told LRT+ that she doesn't know why her classmates did this, and is outraged that the school hasn't responded to this at all.
Meanwhile, the City Council has ordered a service review into the teacher-child conflict.
