The Liepāja University (LiepU) will be reorganized by adding it to Riga Technical University (RTU) as of March 1, 2024, according to the draft order approved by the government Tuesday, August 8.

The Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) has indicated that the reorganization will ensure the sharing and optimization of LiepU studies and available resources in the higher education system. LiepU will continue and develop studies and research in its fields of specialization – engineering and technology, social sciences, humanities and arts sciences.

The IZM foresees that the reorganization of LiepU will have a positive impact on the economy as the administrative burden for the implementation of study programs will be reduced, the issue of avoiding duplication of study programs will be reviewed, and the administrative burden of public administration will be reduced.

From March 1 next year, the RTU will take over the employment relationship with the academic and general staff of the University of Liepaja. The reorganization process will ensure the continuity of the study process, and all students will be able to continue their studies.
