Find events on Latvian student-created 'SpotLoc' app

High-school students from the Rīga Technical College (RTK) have created a mobile application “SpotLoc” which helps people find sports and cultural events of interest to them in different cities of Latvia, Latvian Television reported on August 31.

RTK student Roberts Legzdiņš had the idea of setting up a student enterprise to solve a problem he has faced every day. “I wanted to find sporting events in Ogre. It was very difficult to do this because Ogre has three different homepages, where the events are published. I had the idea that it could be combined in one place, where it is easily accessible and there is no need to walk through these three different websites,” explained Roberts.

Three young men, combining their knowledge, set up an enterprise and created the app “SpotLoc.”

It is possible to find a variety of events in all Latvian cities, including theatrical shows, conferences, sports events, and concerts. Urban festivals have also recently been added. “SpotLoc” allows you to select cities and events by different categories.

“We all programmed ourselves, wrote by hand, didn't use code tools. We learned a lot about it. There's no one holding your hand. If you want to introduce something in the app - take it, look, learn, do it, and create,” the student said.

The mobile app collects data on events both automatically and manually. App makers already have a number of partners, event organizers, who regularly provide information on scheduled concerts and sports developments.

Currently, the number of SpotLoc users has reached 2,500 users and is increasing by 15% per month.
