On Thursday, January 27, the application for the European Union (EU) funded adult education project “Developing the Professional Competencies of Workers” begins, Latvian Television reported.

Workers aged 25 and over may choose from nearly 800 educational programs, which is the largest offer so far, the State Education Development Agency (VIAA) reported.

Programs are open in:

  • business, finance, accounting and administration;
  • electronic and optical equipment manufacturing and information technology;
  • construction;
  • metalworking and mechanical engineering;
  • transport and logistics;
  • energy;
  • timber industries;
  • print and media technology;
  • the chemical industry;
  • arts and design.

"Lifelong learning is a necessity dictated by the labour market, and it is our job to ensure that professional growth opportunities are accessible to everyone. [..] It is important that people with currently insufficient levels of education can also apply for adult training, thereby increasing their chances and competitiveness in the labour market,” said VIAA Director Dita Traidās.

Applications are open until February 24 on macibaspieaugusajiem.lv. The majority of the training costs are covered by EU funds and the State.
