Latvia to close 16 schools by new study year

Take note – story published 8 years ago

16 schools are to be closed in Latvia by the new academic year, according to an Education Ministry list of schools to be reorganized or closed, reported LSM Wednesday.

Population decrease and other factors have contributed to increasing school closures, especially outside Latvia's largest cities.

Last year 4 were closed, while 20 had their status changed. A status change means they were merged with other schools or turned into elementary schools from high schools.
