Several schools have not received Covid testing kits in Latvia

Several schools in Latvia have not received samples of saliva tests for Covid-19 testing, Education Minister Anita Muižniece told Latvian Television August 24.

The sample kits have not been supplied to schools by one specific laboratory, the MFD health group, which apparently has not evaluated its possibilities, namely the inability to cope with the planned work, said the minister.

According to her, the Ministry of Health (HM) will address the matter immediately, in a meeting on Wednesday.

At the same time, the issue of providing pupils with face masks is being addressed. Current stocks are estimated to be 300,000 face masks, and talks are ongoing with Defense Ministry about the procurement of more masks. Muižniece said - if the state requires pupils to wear face masks in schools, they should also be provided.

Year 1-3 pupils would be allowed to study in the classroom without a mask, as would other pupils with a Covid-19 certificate.

As of August 23, extensive Covid-19 testing has been ongoing in primary, secondary, and vocational education institutions, as reported earlier by LSM.
