Teachers should vaccinate more actively, says Education Minister

It will be very difficult to ensure onsite learning if teachers do not want to be vaccinated against Covid-19, said Anita Muižniece, new Minister for Education and Science (New Conservative Party) to Latvian Television June 10.

She said that around 47% of educators are currently vaccinated. “This summer should be used to ensure that adults and young people who can get vaccinated do it, so that children can come to school, and even if there are cases of infection, they do not threaten families and teachers,” Muižniece said.

According to Muižniece, if teachers do not want to get vaccinated, it would be difficult to provide onsite learning.

“If the numbers of teacher vaccination remain the same as they are at present, it will be extremely difficult for us to provide the learning process as it was before Covid-19. The more teachers get vaccinated, the easier it will be to get closer to the situation that was before Covid-19,” Muižniece said.

The new education minister's priority is to be able to ensure onsite learning next school year starting September 1.
