Orange alert for floods along the Daugava

Take note – story published 1 year ago

An orange alert (danger) for flooding is in force along the River Daugava near Daugavpils, with a yellow alert (potential danger) in place across a large swathe of eastern districts, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC) annouced April 6.

The alert will be in force throughout the Easter holidays as water levels in rivers are at high levels.

You can see current hydrological conditions on all rivers using this map: https://hidro.meteo.lv/

The Copernicus satellite has been providing satellite imagery of the River Daugava in recent days showing the extent of flooding and helping to predict the likely next areas to be affected.
