Representatives of the DIO said that a total of 336 million deposit packages have been placed on the market over a period of nine months.
The population, therefore, deposits more than 60% of the deposit packaging placed on the market. Miks Stūrītis, the company's head, describes it as a good indicator. He is convinced that the transfer of containers to the deposit system is a stable habit for Latvian residents.
“We have also carried out a survey of the market and population and found that 93% of households in Latvia use the deposit system,” said Stūrītis. "If we look at the population, at the entire population, then 71% of the entire population use the deposit system at least once a month or more often. That, I think, is a very good indicator. We see the deposit system being used by a higher percentage of population than the daily sorting of waste. This means that here we see very well the additional tool of the deposit system, the financial motivation, the recovery of this deposit fee that plays its role."
By the end of the year, the company expects approximately 230 million units of deposit packaging will be transferred to the system, and this month the possibility of using the deposit system to donate to charity is also introduced.
