Bear duo no longer bother residents

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Neither of the dynamic bear duo that has been causing a nuisance in northern Latvia has been spotted again after being separated and transported away, the Nature Conservation Agency (DAP) told Latvian Radio November 13.

The animals that were separated and transported, one of them twice, to different areas, might have turned to the building of a winter nest or migrated to other forests in neighboring countries.

The DAP will encourage the introduction of a number of solutions in the future to reduce public safety risks regarding wild animals.

“In cooperation with the Riga Zoo, a quarantine complex should be established for large predators, especially for animals in need of warm spaces. They can be exotic animals that are removed from homes. It is also necessary to establish an operational animal catching group with all equipment,” said Rolands Auziņš, director of the Vidzeme Regional Administration of the Nature Conservation Agency.
