Year's biggest fire finally extinguished in Latvia

The fire which broke out in Pemme bog July 26 has finally been put out with the help of heavy rainfall, the State Forest Service (VMD) confirmed August 4.

Large numbers of firefighters managed to contain the area in which the fire was burning so that it did not spread to other forests, but the difficult conditions meant it took rainfall to douse the area completely.  

In all some 180 hectares in area has burned out, making it the largest forest and bog fire this year.
