Protesters rally for better cystic fibrosis care in Latvia

With messages like “Don't put our kids in the way of getting medication,” “cystic fibrosis - the fight we need to win!” and other slogans, parents of cystic fibrosis patients picketed outside the Saeima on May 9.

Parents of children affected by cystic fibrosis demand equal treatment for all patients with this diagnosis. Under the reimbursable medical care system, they are due, but this year have not been given the most effective medications that extend the survival of these patients and save lives.

May 9, Europe Day, that has been specially chosen for the protest. Parents symbolically ask deputies whether every person is important to Latvia, and whether these patients should seek help in other European countries.

In Latvia, this rare disease has been confirmed in just over 50 patients.
