178 new Covid-19 cases in Latvia on Saturday

On Saturday, June 12, Latvia recorded 178 new cases of Covid-19 infection, exactly the same number as on Friday, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 135,940.  

Of 8,682 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 2% were positive, up slightly on Friday's 1.7% rate.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants continued to decline, from 166.4 Friday to 159.6 Saturday.

Sadly two more deaths were also confirmed as a result of Covid-19. One victim was aged 30-39 and one was aged 50-59, providing a reminder that it is not only the elderly who are affected by the coronavirus. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,451.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces. Physical distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitary cleaning habits are encouraged.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
