354 new cases of Covid-19 in Latvia

On Friday, May 28, Latvia recorded 354 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 132,612.  

Of 14,870 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 2.4% were positive, down slightly on the 2.6% rate of Thursday.

Also continuing the encouraging trend of the last few days, the 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants fell again, from 307 Thursday to 291 Friday. It is the first time it has been below 300 since November 25, 2020.

 

Four more deaths were also confirmed Friday, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,359.

Meanwhile in Estonia 140 new cases of coronavirus were recorded May 28, and in Lithuania 503 cases were logged.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces. Physical distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitary cleaning habits are encouraged.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
