567 new Covid-19 cases Sunday

On Sunday, September 26, Latvia recorded 567 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the total number of positive cases, 478 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 89 were fully vaccinated. 

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 154,786. 

Of 13,112 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 4.3 % were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 391.1 Saturday to 401.1 Sunday, taking morbidity even deeper into the 'dark red' or 'very high' risk classification, the highest of the four alert categories under the 'traffic light' system. The last time the morbidity rate exceeded 400 was in May. 

There was also confirmation of two more Covid-related deaths. The younger of the deceased was in the 40-49 years age group, and the other in the 70-79 years age group.

The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,684.

There are currently 371 people being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, of which number 54 are displaying serious symptoms.

Meanwhile, in Estonia there were 465 new Covid cases, and in Lithuania 1,251 new coronavirus infections were recorded over the past 24 hours.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
