Covid case count fell by 21% last week in Latvia

Last week, March 7-13, the number of newly identified Covid-19 cases fell by 21.6%, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said March 14.

 In the last seven days, there has been a slight decrease in the number of patients in hospitals, with an average of 138 people (139 before) hospitalized per day.

The SPKC reported an average of 13,094 tests and an average of 5,828 new cases per day in the past week.

Of all tests performed, 11.8% (10,780 tests) involved screening of educational establishments, while 88.2% (80,881 tests) were in the rest of the population.

The reproduction rate of Covid-19 infection (R) continued to decrease – 0.84 (week before 0.86).

The reduction in incidence with Covid-19 is observed in all age groups as well as in all regions of Latvia.

Last week, in people who had only received primary vaccination, Covid-19 infection was identified equally frequently as in unvaccinated people. The incidence of Covid-19 was 1.6 times less common in the individuals who had received the booster vaccine (per 100,000 inhabitants).
