Covid case total increases by 147 in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Monday, May 17, Latvia recorded 147 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 128,125. The new case total is usually at its lowest on Mondays due to a smaller number of tests being carried out on Sundays.

Of 4,112 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 3.6% were positive. 4% is regarded as the threshold at which the virus is spreading in an uncontrolled manner.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants dipped slightly from 431.3 Sunday to 428.4 Monday. Anything over 200 is classed as a "very high risk" pandemic situation under the government's four-stage "traffic light" system.

Three more deaths were also confirmed Monday, taking the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,269.

Meanwhile in Estonia 153 new cases were confirmed May 17 while in Lithuania 504 cases were confirmed.
