Covid case total increases by 46 in Latvia

On Friday, July 16, Latvia reported 46 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 138,087.

Of 7,678 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.6% were positive, consistent with the rate over the last two weeks.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants ticked up slightly from 28.6 Thursday to 28.9 Friday, still just above the level of 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants which is officially classed as "low risk" under the government's four-color warning system.

No Covid-related deaths were reported Friday, leaving the death toll on 2,542.

On Friday 68 patients were being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals.

 On Thursday the number of people who have completed a course of vaccination reached 629,581. 3,873 people received a first dose of vaccine and 835 received a second dose.

Meanwhile 62 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Estonia Friday while in Lithuania 82 new cases were recorded.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.
