Covid case total rises by 31 Sunday in Latvia

On Sunday, July 4, Latvia reported 31 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 137,631.  

Of 7,418 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.4% were positive, consistent with the roughly 0.5% rate of recent days.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants continued its decline, from 45.6 Saturday to 43.4 Sunday.

Sadly there were two additional Covid-19 deaths confirmed, with both victims in the 50-59 years age group. The death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 2,528.

92 patients are currently being treated for coronavirus symptoms in Latvia's hospitals, of which number 16 are displaying serious symptoms.

As far as Latvia's vaccination drive is concerned, Saturday, July 3 saw 1,774 people receive a first dose of coronavirus vaccine and 3,321 receive a second dose. 568,878 people have now completed the vaccination process (see picture at top of page). 

Meanwhile 27 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Estonia Sunday  and in Lithuania the figure was 20 cases.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.
