Covid case total rises by 37 in Latvia

On Thursday, July 15, Latvia reported 37 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 138,041.

Of 6,651 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 0.6% were positive, consistent with the roughly 0.5% rate over the last two weeks.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants again ticked down from 30.4 Wednesday to 28.6 Thursday, edging ever closer to the level of 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants which is officially classed as "low risk" under the government's four-color warning system.

There was one additional Covid-19 death confirmed Thursday. The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,541.

On Wednesday 68 patients were being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, while the number of people who have completed a course of vaccination reached 625,791.

Meanwhile 64 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Estonia Thursday while in Lithuania more than 100 cases were recorded.

There is a Latvian language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
