Covid testing without doctor's note will be a paid service in Latvia

In view of the epidemiological situation with the spread of Covid–19 in Latvia and elsewhere in European countries, the State-paid Covid-19 testing for the population will continue to be carried out only with a referral from the doctor, the Ministry of Health said November 28.

The testing will use professional antigen tests, unless the doctor will prescribe a SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA test, or polymerase chain reaction, in patients who belong to specific health risk groups.

The doctor will be able to prescribe a state-paid test in patients with Covid-19 signs of illness, assessing the need for the test and the relevance of the results in the treatment process, as well as in patients with certain health problems. In-patient state-paid testing will be available for any patient admitted to the hospital in accordance with the institution's internal procedures, as well as for in long-term social care residents with Covid-19 symptoms.

People with signs of acute respiratory infection and contact with Covid–19 patients can still use self-tests to detect Covid–19 infection.

The main recommendations for reducing the risks of infection in a person with signs of respiratory infectious disease are to avoid visiting public places, and contact with other people, but when visiting a medical treatment institution, pharmacy etc., if necessary, a FFP2 respirator should be used to protect other people from infections.

Isolation requirements are still applicable to patients with confirmed Covid–19 infections.
