PSKUS sees about four to seven COVID-19 infected employees every day. The situation in the hospital is tense, because most of the patients' beds have been filled, as well as employees are regularly quarantined or self-isolating. Doctors are worried about what will happen over Christmas and New Year.
Rācenis said that the list of reserve doctors who may come to work in hospital if needed is also limited. The doctor said that the restrictions on reducing COVID-19 prevalence were not sufficient to reduce the number of infected patients.
Rācenis also pointed to a big problem in treating COVID-19 patients. In his view, a major shortage of the health system is that it is impossible to provide patients with oxygen at home. Another issue is outbreaks at social care centers, where patients, due to lacking workforce, are taken to hospitals later than would be desirable.
LSM reported earlier that COVID-19 is spreading more and more among medical workers.
