Nine Covid deaths, 8,000 cases in Latvia Tuesday

On March 8, 2022, Latvia recorded 8,137 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the newly-confirmed cases, 2,838 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 5,299 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 17,003 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 47.9% were positive. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population dipped from 6041.1 Monday to 5845.6 Tuesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic 712,271 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.


Nine Covid-related deaths were confirmed for the second day in a row. All victims were aged 50 years or older. Three of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,354.

Monday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,191 patients being treated in hospitals (up on Sunday's 1,107). 121 patients were admitted and 16 were discharged during the previous 24 hours. 46 patients were displaying serious symptoms.
