One more coronavirus fatality brings total to 36 in Latvia

Eight new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on September 17, the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 1,494 on Thursday.

One additional death was recorded, total now standing at 36. The victim was aged 90 to 95 with various chronic illnesses.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 2,767 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period. 

In total 288,643 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,248 patients have recovered from infection.

One patient has been hospitalized. Seven patients are in hospital, all of whom are described as having moderate symptoms of the disease.

 

 

SPKC added that one of the new patients had arrived from Russia, two were contact persons, and five are still being investigated.

On September 16 the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 4.1 in Latvia, 18.4 in Lithuania and 24.7 in Estonia.

The number for medical emergencies is 113, the number for enquiring about a COVID-19 test if you have developed some potential symptoms after returning from overseas or being in contact with someone confirmed as having coronavirus is 8303 and the SPKC COVID-19 advice helpline is 67387661.
