Plant wonders: lady's mantle not only for ladies

Take note – story published 3 years ago

The lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) has sprung up in meadows. It is generally known to be useful for women's health but the use is more extensive than that, says pharmaceutical expert and doctor Vija Eniņa.

Harvesting

One can collect either just the flowers or the whole stalk with the leaves.

Drying

If only the flowers have been gathered, spread them out in a thin layer on a paper sheet (not newspaper) or on clean cotton fabric. If the stalks are collected, they can be tied in bouquets and hung. Plants should be dried in a well-aerated and shady place out of direct sunlight.

Use

Lady's mantles are a good metabolic booster for everyone, especially for women. The plant adjusts menstrual cycle, helps during menopause. Take one tablespoon of dried plant per glass of boiling water and allow to infuse for several hours - lady's mantles are rather tough. It is even recommended to leave the brew overnight in a thermos. Drink half a glass twice a day.

The plant can also help against diarrhea but then the infusions should be stronger: 2-3 tablespoons of dried plant per glass of water.

Disclaimer: Only use plants you are sure of. Do not consume plants you don't recognize or plants that have grown in dubious locations.
