Rīga East Hospital to limit services from next week

In view of a large number of Covid-19 patients and an expected increase, the Riga East Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) will discontinue daily hospital services and part of scheduled operations as of next Monday, RAKUS board member Haralds Plaudis, said at the meeting of the Saeima Social and Labour Committee October 6.

Planned operations will continue in oncology as well as other major, important medical manipulations. 

The RAKUS spokesman noted that 93% of Covid-19 patient beds are occupied at the hospital as of October 6 and 14 free beds have remained.

From intensive therapy beds, Covid-19 patients have occupied 94% and one bed has remained free.

Plaudis also pointed out that there is a problem with the available number of employees because part of the staff is ill. 23% of intensive therapy workers are absent today.
