Between November 1 and 7, the number of newly detected Covid-19 cases dropped by 23.4%, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) reported November 8.

The reduction trend is likely to be linked to national-level safety measures aimed at reducing public assembly.

On average, 20,041 Covid-19 tests were performed daily (previously 22,217) was performed, while an average daily occurrence of 1,812 new infections (2,375 before) was detected.

Of all tests performed, 43% were related to screening of educational establishments, while 57% were for the rest of the population. Of the positive Covid-19 cases, 4% were related to screening of educational institutions, while 96% were in the rest of the population.

The reproduction rate of Covid-19 infection (R) decreased to 0.8 (a week earlier at 0.97) in the last week, showing a slight decrease in the spread of the disease in society.

The decrease is observed in all age groups. The incidence in all regions of Latvia is decreasing, however, Latgale and Vidzeme remain higher than average in the country.

8,626 people infected last week had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 or the vaccination course had not yet been completed, representing a total of 68% of all those infected in the last week. Meanwhile, 4,059 people had been vaccinated, representing 32% of all those who were ill last week. Thus Covid-19 was detected 2.2 times more frequently in the unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated population than fully vaccinated.
