Weekly drop in Covid morbidity in Latvia

In Latvia, during the first week of 2023, from January 2 to 8, the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 decreased by 70.4%, according to information from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) January 11.

From January 2 to 8, 393 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded, which is 70.4% less than in the week from December 26 to January 1, when 1,327 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed.

In the first week of this year, 2,932 Covid-19 tests were conducted, which is 58.4% less than last week (7,050). In the first week of 2023, the proportion of positive tests was 13.4%, a week earlier was 18.8%.

Similarly, last week, compared to a week earlier, the number of patients in hospitals with a confirmed Covid-19 infection decreased by 28.3%.

The first week of this year had 14 deaths of Covid-19 patients and a week earlier 19.

During the previous week, the number of cases of Covid-19 decreased in almost all regions of Latvia, with only a slight increase in Latgale. The reduction in morbidity has also been observed in all age groups.
