Weekly vaccination take-up falls in Latvia

Last week, a total of approximately 25,000 people started vaccination against Covid-19 in Latvia, according to the latest figures compiled by the National Health Service (NVD), newswire LETA reported November 8.

A total of at least 75,923 people were vaccinated in Latvia last week, some 25,000 of whom received the first dose of the vaccine and approximately 32,000 got the second dose. Another 12,000 people got the single-dose vaccine. The proportion of people vaccinated for the first time has fallen since the beginning of October.  The number of people receiving the second dose of vaccine was the largest since the end of June.

Last week, residents' interest in booster shots continued to grow, with more than 7,300 people receiving an additional dose in the past seven days, about 2,000 more than the week before.

The numbers could still change as doctors enter data in the joint system over the span of three days.

Until now, 957,704 people have received the first jab against Covid-19, while 1,059,271 people have completed the vaccination process, including those with a single-dose jab. 

According to the Central Statistical Bureau, there were 1,882,200 inhabitants in Latvia at the beginning of July 2021, thus so far a total of 56.28% of the population have completed the vaccination process, according to LETA estimates.
