In a travel alert issued July 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said: "In connection with the critical situation caused by forest fires in various regions of Greece, we invite Latvian nationals who plan to enter Greece or are currently in the country to constantly follow the information of the responsible services and authorities in Greece about the current situation, as well as to follow all instructions related to evacuation from the areas affected by the fires."
In order to receive timely and up-to-date information about forest fires in Greece, Latvians who are in the country are advised to keep their mobile phones in "roaming" mode. Those unsure about whether to depart or not should contact their tour operator or hotel in good time.

The "Travel Safely" app of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can be downloaded to smartphones to stay abreast of the latest travel alerts. Another resource is the Facebook account of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
If consular assistance is required, there is a 24-hour hotline of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia +371 26337711.
There are also hotlines run by the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, which are available to foreign citizens who need assistance on +30 210-3681259 and +30 210-3681350.
Both Greek and foreign citizens who are in immediate danger should call emergency services on 112.
