Swimming pool visitor dies in Rīga's Olympic Center

A person died in the Rimi Olympic Center pool on April 1, LETA reported.

The information available to the State Police indicates that the death was an accident, but criminal proceedings have been initiated under the Criminal Law chapter on criminal offenses against personal health, and expert examinations have been ordered, State Police spokesperson Līga Dziļuma confirmed to LETA.

Lelde Vasile, a spokesperson for Rimi Olympic Centre, told LETA that the investigation into the causes of the incident is currently the responsibility of the authorities and the company has no more detailed information.

Vasile also pointed out that there was a rescuer at the facility who, having detected the situation, carried out the rescue procedure in accordance with the first aid guidelines.

"We are doing everything we can to help clarify the circumstances of the case," Vasile said.
