Rīga to offer bird's-eye view from air balloons

As of July 1, visitors and residents of the Latvian capital Rīga will be able to see it from a bird's-eye view, rising high above the city in a hot air balloon, Inga van Havera, a balloon pilot, told Latvian Television on June 7.

Van Havera said that Rīga had been inspired by the neighboring capital Vilnius. "We thought – are we worse [than Vilnius], our capital is so beautiful," said the pilot.

There are not too many capitals of the world where one can view the city from above in a balloon, according to van Havera. The capitals of the world where this can be done are in Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Brazil, the United States, and some others. "If we can count those capital cities on our fingers, then why not become one of them?" she said.

The best weather conditions for a flight are clear blue skies, with little to no wind and no rain.
